Hawk reminds her of her first unremarkable mission where nothing interesting happens. The framing sequence for the book shows that Scarlett's "fake" hissy fit in the beginning of the volume's first arc wasn't faked after all-she was really having a fit about not being accepted by the ninja force. This is one of the only issues in the series not written by Hama and it's even worse than the rest of the book. We then get a standalone story which flashbacks to Scarlett's first mission on the team. They show up and a big street battle ensues, with Hama apparently killing off Autobots left and right as Megatron blows them away. There's no way that either of these two dastardly fiends would double cross each other! The Joe team learns about Megatron helping Cobra and uses their special space phone (given to them in the GI JOE/Transformers crossover series, which up to this point existed outside of Hama's continuity) to call the Autobots.

Everyone was doing it.įollowing the silly first story arc is an even sillier second four-issue arc where the Transformer Megatron just randomly shows up and makes a deal with Cobra Commander to give him access to all the technology in their Ark spaceship in exchange for the scientist Dr. These first four issues also came polybagged with trading cards. This was how they did the covers for nearly a full year, really downplaying the GI JOE part of it and focusing heavily on all the ninjas.
This is the start of when Marvel really tapped into all the Snake-Eyes hype, shrinking the name "GI JOE" on the cover, and having a small "starring" followed by "Snake-Eyes" in huge letters. The Cobra ninja Slice vacillates back and forth between implicitly trusting her and being impressed with how she proves herself and being highly suspicious, depending on the needs of the scene. The fact that Cobra Commander seems surprised to find out that she was still loyal to GI JOE at the end of this is absurd. She then allows herself to be recruited by Cobra, but surprise, she's actually acting as a double agent the whole while. I stopped reading the series as it originally came out after the first four-issue Ninja Force arc, in which Scarlett pretends to be angry at the Ninja Force for not being treated as an equal by them, throws a tantrum and then storms out of their training room. This is definitely the lowest point of the GI JOE Larry Hama series (at least so far).
